Where ARE the biopharmaceutical jobs?

PhRMA, the Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers of America, the biopharmaceutical industry’s advocacy organization published a document in 2022 that reflects the 2020 economic impact of the industry in the United States.  

Overall, the states with the most jobs include:

California

New Jersey

Massachusetts

New York

Pennsylvania

These five states have more than 50,000 employees (each) in the biopharma sector.

However, importantly, there are 23 states (!!) with more than 10,000 employees (each).

This is great news for those living in the darker blue states – many jobs in biopharma exist! However, despite this information, there continue to be many remote opportunities for physicians – don’t despair if you live in New Mexico or Idaho! Remote roles exist that allow employees to predominantly work from home and occasionally attend meetings in the “home office” or headquarters.
