LinkedIn for networking

LinkedIn is a great tool that I highly recommend to all of my coaching clients. Most of my work with clients is related to finding a job in pharma/biotech and thus, much of our work on LinkedIn involves utilizing the job search capabilities.

I was reminded of the great NETWORKING tool that LinkedIn is while working with a client that is interested in consulting for pharma/biotech. If you are looking to build your network during your quest for a role in pharma (which you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE!) consider the following approach:

1 – search for “physician in pharma” on LinkedIn

2 – utilize the search to CONNECT with physicians working in pharma

AND

3 – with LinkedIn Premium, use the search to MESSAGE physicians directly to build your network of physicians working in pharma

AND

4 – evaluate the other people in the physicians’ networks – look for physicians with your specialty, connect with recruiters that focus on physicians for pharma/biotech, and understand what companies physicians are working in

LinkedIn is a great resource for more than job searching – use it to build your network. Set a goal – how many minutes per day will you commit to building your network? 15 minutes? 20 minutes? Make a commitment!
