Clinical Development Courses and Certifications
Recently, I physician that booked a free 15 minute consultation with me asked about Clinical Development training courses.
Generally, I counsel physicians that they have plenty of degrees and experience to transition to pharma.
I certainly do not think they need to go back for a Masters degree, etc.
The physician that I was speaking with had found a Clinical Development course, offered by Harvard, that seemed financially reasonable and interesting.
I typically recommend that all physicians that want to transition to pharma/biotech take a FREE Good Clinical Practices (GCP) course.
IF you are a resident or fellow and have the opportunity to get a Masters in Clinical Research during your training, and you are interested in clinical research as a career (whether in academics or industry); I do believe this is highly worthwhile!
There are some courses out there…
This is a personal decision about cost, time and gain.
These courses will not LAND you the job in pharma/biotech.
You will still need to do the work including applying for jobs and importantly, NETWORKING.
I’m always happy to discuss these decisions with physicians interested in transitioning to pharma/biotech!!
