Beware of Stereotypes

Know-it-all

Know nothing about business
Have I gotten your attention?
Just like any group of people, doctors come in all shapes, colors and egos…
Many are perfectionists
Many have imposter syndrome
Some are egotistical
Some think they know everything
Many claim to not know anything about business
Some know a lot about business
What’s my point?
When you go into an interview, it’s helpful to know what the interviewer is thinking…
And here is where my experience and expertise come in – as a physician in pharma AND a hiring manager that interviews physicians.
Our teams are interested to know if YOU think you know everything… are you a “know-it-all”?
Are you “always right”?
Are you “full of ego”?
Those are stereotypes that docs face … no shying away from it!
BUT…
I also know that many physicians aren’t egotistical AT ALL!
They worry they don’t know enough,
That they don’t know everything,
That they don’t really belong as a physician…
When interviewing, you must know what the other side is thinking and counter that – provide them evidence against the stereotypes.
Be humble, yet confident
Be willing to listen
Open to learning
Collaborative
Curious
Make sure when interviewing that you understand what the person interviewing you may be coming to the table with – a preconceived notion about physicians…
Be interested
Be open
Be curious
Be confident but not cocky
This is where coaching comes in! Having a coach to prepare you for interviews and help you understand the process from an insider’s view is critical… know the pitfalls and potential mis-steps and be coached to avoid them!
